Am I missing something here? Is there a specific point that is being made regarding Evolution?

I have regarded the fact that one can date particular branches of humanity or other species in this way, as a demonstration that these parts of the genetic code, far from being “junk DNA” or completely non-functional from an evolutionary perspective, are functional to the “brains” of evolution in that it can keep and retain this useful information for hundreds of thousands of years and make use of it in times of high environmental stress, in the intelligent process of speciation.
