I’m not sure what to say about the Beatitudes. I guess either you buy into them, or you don’t. Being a non-believer the esteem with which they are held by believers is difficult to comprehend. I do think it’s a stroke of marketing genius to defer the payment of the promises until after the believer has died. A couple of months back I reposted Kissing Hank’s Ass and natonoel said it was written by “someone who clearly doesn’t know what evangelicals actually believe”, and yet to believe in what the Beatitudes are offering is exactly the same situation, at least as I see it. As the believer is guaranteed these things in heaven as their reward, so to if you want Hank’s money then you’ll have to leave town and never come back.
